The Deer Track Toski Golf Course in Surfside Beach closed its doors for good today, September 12, 2006. The South golf course at Deer Track will close temporarily and then re-open later this Fall or early Spring 2007.
The owner of Deer Track passed away suddenly earlier this year, and his heirs decided to sell the Toski golf course for Myrtle Beach real estate development.
Deer Track Golf Course had been around since the 1970s and was managed by Gary Schaal, former President of the PGA. Schaal's relationship with John Daly in the past decade helped bring Daly's signature touch to Wicked Stick Golf Course in Surfside.
The Deer Track management team had moved out of the club house as of September 12th and were planning to re-open and operate out of a temporary structure for the near future. The Deer Track South Golf Course has been limited to a 17 hole facility for some time now, but still received good play despite this limitation.
Deer Track is the 17th area Myrtle Beach Golf Course to close in the past 10 years. This trend continues in Myrtle Beach with more Myrtle Beach Golf Courses expected to close in the coming year.
